Our vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soil, dry Mediterranean climate and are exposed to the South . We combine innovation and technology with the experience and knowledge transmitted over generations.
The vines grow on integrated production system in which the use of chemicals is minimal, saving the environment and the human health. We are currently in a process of gradual conversion of old vines in order to improve the quality and production.
Our main varieties are Trincadeira Preta , Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Fernão Pires, Trincadeira das Pratas , Verdelho and Alicante Bouchet. With a smaller dimension , Quinta da Ribeirinha has also planted some other significant varieties in individual plots, such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdout, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay.
The passion for wine, and more than that, the constant dedication to the wine business has been going through the Cândido family for several generations. Jose Cândido, the patriarch of the family has developed from an early age his occupation as farmer, and the wine was his main source of income.
As a wine producer , he performed multiple roles in the whole process : vinegrower, winemaker, wholesaler and finally, seller. He was , for years, the only responsible person for the quality of the wine produced in the farm ;at the same time he was the person who used to contact his customers. His permanent concern was, as a matter of fact, to produce a good wine, according to his customer´s taste .
Later, in 1995, José Cândido’s activity had a new development ; his son, Joaquim Cândido, neurologist, a lover for the vines and winemaking decided to support his Father’s activity, continuing with the planting of new areas of vineyards, building the farm’s own wine cellar and following the technological evolution, he decided to apply scientific methods in the production process.
Shortly after, two of his children, Mariana and Rui, an economist and a biochemist completed the board of the directors of the company.
Following the trend towards the internationalization of the economy, from early , our company has been concerned on building partnerships in foreign markets for export of our wines and sparklings.
Currently , we export over 80% of our sales and they have been growing at a rapid pace, given the emerging opportunities and business deals that have been undertaken, under the strategic partnerships with some of our customers.
The main destinations of our products have been primarily African continent, with particular emphasis on Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea and S. Tome and Principe and the Americas, Brazil, Canada and the U.S.
In the European market , our exports are delivered in several countries such as Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Norway, Great Britain, France and Spain. More recently we have been expanding our markets to China.
In the domestic market, Quinta da Ribeirinha has marketed its products through a network of small distributors, primarily focusing their sales in the HORECA channel.
So, you can find wines from our Estate in most restaurants of the Santarém district, as well as in many other regions of our country, such as Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Algarve, Madeira and the Azores. Our concern is to extend the distribution network to all regions of the country.
Quinta da Ribeirinha has today a group of 15 people, adding skills and experiences in different areas: in the vineyards, in the winemaking process, in the bottling and packaging and in the management and marketing areas.
